VFW Post 3629 Announces Selection of 2017 National Voice of Democracy Winners

Karen Lundquist - 6/19/2017

Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 40,000 9-12 grade students from across the nation enter to win their share of $2 million in scholarships and incentives. The national first-place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. Other national scholarships range from $1,000 to $16,000 and the first-place winner from each state wins a minimum of $1,000 and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC. The 2017-18 theme is "American History: Our Hope for the Future.”

Student entry deadline is October 31, 2017. Contest rules, eligibility and entry forms can be downloaded at www.vfw.org Submissions can be delivered to the local VFW Post. Further information: Commander Bob Martin at (907) 371-8821 between 8 am - 4 pm.
